...the ongoing war against spyware

Antispyware: What is it?

Because of the widespread epidemic of spyware, a whole new market has opened up for software and programs that hunt down, destroy, remove, block or quarantine these annoying and dangerous programs. These counter spyware software programs have been labeled "anti spyware" and are now distributed as far and wide as spyware itself.

In fact, it's reached a point where virtually no one operates a computer anymore, with out running some kind of anti spyware or even multiple versions of anti spyware at the same time.

Some versions of anti spyware pick up things that other versions do not and vise versa. This is why it best to run at least 2 or 3 different anti spyware programs simultaneously whenever your PC is connected to the internet.

There are a couple of specific functions of anti spyware, these are as follows:

1: Similarly to anti-virus software, anti spyware can be constantly working in the background, detecting spyware embedded in incoming information and data so as to prevent it from being installed on your computer.

2: An easier and more common function of anti spyware is to go through and hunt down dangerous files that have already found their way into your PC and then deal with them accordingly.

One of the ways of dealing with them is to quarantine or block the dangerous files which means they are still on the computer but have been disabled from operating and causing further damage.

Another is to simply remove it altogether, thus achieving the same results but also bringing peace of mind to the user that it is gone for good.

However, as the authors of spyware get smarter and smarter, the need for the authors of the anti spyware to keep up increases accordingly. Anti spyware programs are required to log every possible attack in existence and build a safe guard against it.

This will most likely never end until something drastic happens in the world of computer programming.
